COUNTRY MUSIC AND HANKS ARE

BIG TIME important in the COUNTRY MUSIC tradition. If you have read on all the blogs, you've seen and "hopefully" read the one about Hank Thompson & The Brazos VALLEY BOYS, one of the last, great Country Swing Musicians, who are actively touring and making money with the BIG SWING STYLES, of Bob Wills and the TEXAS Playboys. For fun, google Hank Thompson and see how many records/CDs you can buy.

DRIVIN' NAILS IN MY COFFIN

(Notice the word blue in this song. You think maybe that is where they got The Blues?)

My sweetheart has gone and I am so lonely
She said that she and I are through
So I started out drinking for past time
Driving nails in my coffin over you

Course:
I’m just driving nails in my coffin
Every time I drink a bottle of booze
I’m just driving nails in my coffin
Lord, drivin’ those nails over you

INSTRUMENTALS

Now ever since the day that we parted
Well I’ve been so lonely and so blue
And I’m always thinking of you only
And I just can’t quit drinking that old booze

Course:
I’m just driving nails in my coffin
Every time I drink a bottle of booze
I’m just driving nails in my coffin
Lord, drivin’ those nails over you

INSTRUMENTALS

Now you turned me down’ you don’t want me
There’s nothing now I can loose
I’m just driving those nails in my coffin
And worrying my darling over you

Course:
I’m just driving nails in my coffin
Every time I drink a bottle of booze
I’m just driving nails in my coffin
Lord, drivin’ those nails over you

At least 3 Hanks sang this song. Can you think of them? How about using the Internet? (These words are submitted for Bro. Cec, who has, at least, 3 in his.:-)

I love Hank Thompson music, and I love it even more, when he teams up with guest musicians who help him on the Lyrics. Darrin, bought me a Hank Thompson & Friends CD several Christmas's ago, and I play it all the time.

Thompson says, over and over, today, that for some reason, if his name is on an album, the radio stations won't play it. Big deal! Thompson has his own legion of fans who support him, anywhere he has a GIG! I tell you how Hank Thompson and Woody Guthrie land in the same spot at the same time? I cannot tell you how many times I have come close to memorizing this song. Maybe this summer will be my summer. You think?

Many months have come and gone since I wandered from my home
In those Oklahoma Hills where I was born
Many a page of life has turned many a lesson I have learned
Yet I feel like in those hills I still belong

Way down yonder in the Indian nation I rode my pony on the reservation
In the Oklahoma Hills where I was born
A-way down yonder in the Indian nation a cowboy's life is my occupation
In the Oklahoma Hills where I born

But as I sit here today many miles I am away
From the place I rode my pony through the draw
Where the Oak and Blackjack trees kiss the playful prairie breeze
In those Oklahoma Hills where I was born.

Way down yonder in the Indian nation I rode my pony on the reservation
In the Oklahoma Hills where I was born
A-way down yonder in the Indian nation a cowboy's life is my occupation
In the Oklahoma Hills where I born

As I turn my life a page to the land of the great Osage
To those Oklahoma Hills where I was born
Where the black oil rolls and flows and the snow-white cotton grows
In those Oklahoma Hills where I was born.

Way down yonder in the Indian nation I rode my pony on the reservation
In the Oklahoma Hills where I was born
A-way down yonder in the Indian nation a cowboy's life is my occupation
In the Oklahoma Hills where I born

(MAIN) Way down yonder in the Indian nation
Ridin’ my pony on the reservation
In the Oklahoma Hills where I was born
Way down yonder in the Indian nation
A cowboy’s life is my occupation
In the Oklahoma Hills where I was born

You'd never guess who wrote this song. Woody Guthrie and His brother, Leon "Okie" Guthrie! Is that cool or what!
